The Difference Between Genuine, OEM & Aftermarket Parts
Published on 2026-10-16
When buying spare parts for aerial work platforms and cranes, you usually come across three terms: Genuine, OEM, and Aftermarket. Understanding the difference can save you money and prevent machine breakdowns.
1. Genuine Parts:
These are parts supplied directly by the machine manufacturer (like JLG or Genie) in their branded packaging. They are exactly the same parts that came with the machine when it was brand new. They are the most reliable and come with a manufacturer warranty, but they are also the most expensive.
2. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Parts:
Machine manufacturers don't make every single part themselves. They buy parts like hydraulic pumps, controllers, or engines from other specialized companies (like Parker, Deutz, or O&K). OEM parts are made by these exact same companies but are sold in their own packaging instead of the machine brand's packaging. They offer the exact same quality as Genuine parts but usually cost less.
3. Aftermarket Parts:
These parts are made by third-party companies that did not supply parts for the original machine. They are designed to fit and function like the original parts. Aftermarket parts are usually the most cost-effective option. While some aftermarket parts are incredibly high-quality and even improve upon original designs, others can be of lower quality. That's why it's important to buy them from a trusted supplier.
At Infinity Equipments And Spares, we help you choose the right balance between cost and quality by supplying 100% verified Genuine, OEM, and premium Aftermarket parts.
